Tune of the Day: The Tailor's Wedding
Traditional Scottish/Irish jig
The earliest known appearance of this tune is in The Caledonian Repository of Music, adapted for the Bagpipes, being a collection of Strathspeys, Reels, Jigs & Quicksteps, published by William Gunn in Glasgow in 1848. The jig has a history not only in Scotland but also in Ireland, where it is now better known as "The Legacy", even though the celebrated Irish collector Francis O'Neill still published it as "The Tailor's Wedding" in his 1903 and 1907 collections.

Tune of the Day: Gilleonan MacNeil, Ciosmul
Pipe march by Roddy Campbell
Today's tune was kindly contributed to our collection by its composer, piper Roddy Campbell from the Outer Hebrides, Scotland. The title is the name of a historical figure, about whom the author writes:
He was a chief of the MacNeils of Barra and a member of the Council of the Isles formed in 1545 to treat with Henry VIII. The name became popular among the MacNeil chiefs but fell out of favour in later centuries.

Tune of the Day: Variations on "Non più mesta"
for two flutes
Today we propose a set of variations on the aria "Non più mesta" from Rossini's 1812 opera La Cenerentola (Cinderella), kindly contributed to our collection by its composer, Corrado Cristaldi from Italy.
These variations extend an arrangement for two flutes originally published in the 1833 collection Blake's Young Flutist's Magazine, trying to respect the Romantic style while at the same time keeping the piece light and enjoyable.
